We are the Champions!
Last year we felt we had perfected the Dalbeattie Fine Foods haggis, and so we enthusiastically entered it in a prestigious competition run by the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders, the Oscars of the Scottish meat industry. Much to our surprise we scooped the top title and became Scottish Haggis Champions.
Buoyed by our success we entered the Steak Pie category, because we thought our Steak Pies were pretty special too. We took the top award again becoming Scottish Steak Pie Champions, beating 150 others in the process.
Having so far won every award we entered, it was with some trepidation that we decided to see how far our winning streak would take us. We put our Black Pudding up before the judges and again took top honours, becoming Scottish Black Pudding Champion.
Making a Champion
So what is it about our traditional Scottish meat products that grab the attention of the judges? We think our winning approach comes down to:
- Tradition
- Time
- Consistency
With all our traditional products we looked back at their history and examined what made them so popular in the first place. Traditions change throughout the generations, but at the heart of each of these products was a story waiting to be told, a recipe that spoke of the history and centuries of popularity of each dish.
It takes time to develop a recipe to its fullest potential, and we invested that time in each of our Champion products, experimenting with quantities, flavours and methods until we had discovered the recipe that made our tastebuds come to life.
Having perfected our recipes we never deviate from them. We use the same high quality ingredients in every batch and we never cut corners.
The Champion Range
We are launching our new range in early 2009, The Champion Range, products that have been officially declared the best in Scotland. We hope we will add to it in the months to come by claiming Champion status with some of our other delicious products, but in the meantime let's hear it for the Champions
